1. Before You Install: Check Windows and Choose a Trusted Installer

Clash Verge Rev is a Windows desktop client for managing Clash-compatible configurations and running a proxy core. Installing the client is only the first part of setup: you will also need a configuration, such as a file or subscription provided by a service you trust, before the client can route traffic. You can install and open the application without importing a configuration, so do not treat an empty profile list as an installation failure.

This guide covers a typical Windows 11 installation. Labels can vary slightly between releases, and the installer may change its prompts, but the basic sequence is the same: obtain the Windows installer, check the file, run setup, and confirm that the application opens. Use the site’s download page to find the current Windows package. Avoid third-party download mirrors and repackaged installers: they can be outdated or modified, and a familiar application name alone does not prove that a file is authentic.

Before downloading, confirm that Windows 11 is up to date and that your account can install desktop software. A standard user account may be prompted for an administrator’s credentials during setup. Also check that you have enough free disk space and that the installer is saved somewhere easy to find, such as the Downloads folder. If you use an organization-managed computer, an administrator may restrict application installation or network components; check those policies before trying to work around them.

  • Use the Windows build: Select the package intended for Windows, not a macOS, Linux, or Android file. If the download page lists more than one Windows architecture, choose the package that matches your PC.
  • Keep the original file: Leave the downloaded installer’s filename and extension intact. A Windows installer commonly ends in .exe or .msi, depending on how that release is packaged.
  • Check the source and file: Make sure the download completed and came from the link provided for the intended release. If Windows or your security software reports a threat, stop and verify the source rather than disabling protection.
  • Plan for configuration: Have a valid configuration file or subscription available if you intend to test proxy connectivity after installation. Do not paste private subscription URLs into public support posts or screenshots.

2. Download the Installer and Review Windows Security Prompts

Open the download page in your browser and select the Windows installer that matches your system. When the browser finishes downloading, open File Explorer and go to Downloads. Check that the file has a plausible size and that its name resembles the package described on the download page. A download that is only a few kilobytes when a full installer should be much larger may be an incomplete file or an HTML error page saved with the wrong name.

If the release provides a checksum or digital-signature information, compare it with the value published by the same trusted source. A checksum is useful only when the expected value comes from a trustworthy, separate source; comparing a file against a value copied from an untrusted mirror does not establish authenticity. You can also right-click the installer, select Properties, and inspect the Digital Signatures tab if one is present. Not every release or packaging method necessarily provides a signature, so the absence of that tab is a reason to verify the source carefully, not a reason to assume either safety or compromise.

Windows 11 may display a User Account Control prompt asking whether the installer can make changes to your device. Check the displayed application and publisher information against what you expect. If the prompt names an unrelated program, or you launched a file you do not recognize, choose No and delete or quarantine the file. Do not enter administrator credentials simply to get past a prompt you cannot explain.

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen can also show a message such as “Windows protected your PC,” especially for a new or less commonly downloaded application. Do not disable SmartScreen or your antivirus as a routine installation step. First confirm that you downloaded the intended release from a trusted page and, where available, check its signature or checksum. If the file still cannot be verified, cancel rather than using an override. On a managed work or school PC, contact the administrator if the application is blocked by policy.

3. Install Clash Verge Rev on Windows 11

Once you have checked the installer, you can run setup. The exact screens depend on the package supplied for the current release. Read each prompt rather than clicking through automatically, especially if the installer offers a choice of install location or asks whether to create shortcuts. In most cases, the default location is suitable for a personal Windows 11 computer.

Step-by-step installation

  1. In File Explorer, open Downloads and double-click the Clash Verge Rev installer. If Windows shows a security prompt, review the application and publisher details as described above before proceeding.
  2. Follow the installer’s instructions. If it presents a license or component information, read it and continue only if you are comfortable with the terms. Keep the default installation folder unless you have a specific reason to change it.
  3. If setup asks whether to create a Start menu entry or desktop shortcut, choose the options that suit your workflow. A shortcut is convenient but not required for the application to run.
  4. Allow the installer to finish. Do not close the setup window while it is copying files or registering the application. If Windows asks for administrator approval, confirm that the prompt refers to the installer you just launched.
  5. When the installer reports completion, choose its launch option if available, or open Start, search for Clash Verge Rev, and select the installed application. If Windows asks whether to allow the app through a firewall, review the network context and choose deliberately; do not grant broad access without understanding why it is requested.

Some releases use an installer that offers a repair or uninstall option when run again. If you accidentally start the installer a second time, do not assume the application needs to be installed repeatedly. Read the available choices and exit if you only meant to open the client. Likewise, do not remove application folders manually as a first troubleshooting step; use Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps to uninstall a registered installation when necessary.

Installation and proxy operation are separate. The installer places the client on the computer, while the client manages configuration and the selected core. A configuration may require a compatible core, and some core features may ask for additional Windows permissions. You generally do not need to enable TUN or change network settings just to confirm that the graphical application starts. Begin with the simplest setup and add network features only when your configuration and use case require them.

4. First Launch: Check the Interface Before Adding a Configuration

On first launch, Windows may take a moment to initialize the application. Wait for the main window to appear, then check that the title and interface are visible and responsive. A blank profile list, a prompt to import a configuration, or a notice that no proxy is active can be normal on a fresh installation. These messages do not necessarily mean the installer failed.

Before importing anything, identify the client’s version and inspect its core status if the interface shows one. The client and the core are different components: the client provides configuration management and controls, while the core processes proxy configuration, DNS, rules, and connections. A client window can open successfully even if no core is installed or running yet. Conversely, a core error does not usually mean Windows setup itself needs to be repeated.

If you have a trusted configuration, use the import method supported by the client and check that it appears in the profile list. A subscription is sensitive information: its URL may contain an access token, so do not expose it in screenshots, logs, or public support requests. Select the imported profile and confirm that it is the active one before testing. If the configuration names protocols or features unsupported by the selected core, the profile may import but fail during validation or startup.

For a basic test, check the client’s status and logs after selecting a configuration. Look for a clear core-startup result, configuration parsing errors, or messages about unavailable resources. If the core starts, make one simple connection test and confirm that the connection appears in the client’s connection list. Do not begin by enabling TUN, changing DNS, and editing several rules at once: changing one setting at a time makes it much easier to identify the cause of a problem.

  • Window opens and remains responsive: The graphical application has launched; proceed to configuration only if you are ready.
  • No profile is selected: Import or select a configuration. This state is expected on a fresh installation.
  • Profile fails to start: Read the first relevant core or configuration error and check compatibility, required resources, and subscription status.
  • Proxy does not affect an application: Confirm that the application’s traffic reaches the client. System proxy settings do not capture every program; transparent routing may require separate, supported configuration.

System proxy and TUN are not interchangeable. A system proxy setting directs applications that respect Windows proxy settings to the local proxy. TUN uses a virtual network interface to capture a broader range of traffic, but its setup may require elevated permissions and can interact with other VPN or network-filter software. Do not turn on TUN merely because a browser test fails. First verify the active profile, core status, routing mode, and whether the test application is using the expected proxy path.

5. If Clash Verge Rev Will Not Launch

If the application does not open, start with the least disruptive checks. A failed launch can result from an incomplete download, a blocked installation, a conflict with another running instance, or a problem in the application’s user data. These causes call for different remedies; repeatedly reinstalling the same file is unlikely to help if Windows is blocking it or the installer is incompatible.

Basic Windows checks

  1. Check whether it is already running. Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc and look for Clash Verge Rev. If an existing process is stuck, end that process once and try opening the app again. Do not terminate unrelated system processes.
  2. Restart Windows. A restart can release files or background components left in an incomplete setup. After restarting, launch the application from the Start menu rather than from an old installer window.
  3. Review security history. Open Windows Security and check the protection history for a block involving the installer or application. Do not restore or allow a detected file until you have verified its origin and identity.
  4. Confirm the installation is registered. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps and search for Clash Verge Rev. If it is listed, try launching it from Start. If it is not listed or setup ended unexpectedly, obtain a fresh installer from the trusted download page.
  5. Check architecture and completeness. Make sure the installer was intended for Windows and your PC, and that the download finished. Remove a visibly incomplete or incorrect package before downloading again.
  6. Use repair or reinstall only when appropriate. If the package supports repair, try that option before uninstalling. If you reinstall, first consider whether local profiles or settings need to be backed up; do not delete configuration data indiscriminately.

If the window flashes and disappears, note whether an error message appears and check Windows notifications or security history. If the interface opens but the core fails, capture the core’s startup log rather than treating it as a Windows installer failure. Record the client version, Windows 11 build, core version if known, the exact error text, and what action produced it. Redact subscription URLs, passwords, private server addresses, and controller credentials before sharing diagnostic details.

When the application remains blocked by an organization policy, an antivirus detection you cannot verify, or an administrator restriction, stop and ask the responsible administrator or security vendor for guidance. Do not disable Windows Defender, firewall protection, SmartScreen, or other security controls as a general fix. A sound installation is one where the source is verified, Windows accepts the application for a clear reason, and the client opens without requiring unexplained security exceptions.
